The great new RS2 stablemate for the Ur's was destined not to be after all.....

When a car is advertised as being close to concours and is priced at the top of the market then that's what you expect to find. I've just got home after a wasted 1000 mile trip

I'm not going to shout all the problems in open forum, but whoever buys this 'near perfect' car, better have expectations in the region of a few grand at a main dealer.

One thing I will say for other buyers when looking at a car out there.......

Look out for a big daub of mastic/silicon holding something near the block........

Be suspicious when you meet a warm engine and during a test drive the seller repeatedly tells you not to turn off the engine.........

Sorry to hear it wasn't as described and expected. Have to say that you have some garage there and I am green with envy. They both look amazing and I'd give my right nut for anything even close to either of them. I'd give both nuts for what you seem to have.

I'm itching to get my hands on an early coupe of any sorts but I've got no space to take one on right now. I need to move where the land is cheaper and the oil flows more freely...

Very sorry to hear that ,i hope it hasnt put you off the search, it might be worth not worring to much about the mileage of the car, it is clearly about how and where it has been looked after that counts IMHO.

Surprising then as Sherv was selling at £16ish you would hope any faults would have been fixed. Plus then would have got a grand for the 18" Cup 1s. What is the Blue car for sale in Scotland like. It looks like good value. Otherwise do what I did and buy one cheap and get all the right things done properly with what you save.

Good point about the mileage. At that sort of age mileage is a little irrelavent. I've driven old cars with less than 10k on the clock that had clapped engines. That's genuine mileage with services at main dealers and still not worth a bean.. Yet I've driven similar aged cars with over 300k on the clock that felt really good.

You have to take each car on its own merit and look at how and when the mileage was put on the car. I avoid anything that has had short trips in its life. Kills everything on a car IMHO.

Really hope he finds a good example out there, I'd love to see all 3 cars side by side in that garage...

Thanks Sheppardnias. I'd be more than happy to add an RS2 in there too......

I've now spent much of the week-end trawling through the posts of RS2 problems on this forum and I can all but guarantee that the car which is currently for sale requires a new hall sender. The symptoms were that there was little or no boost and that the 'seller' insisted that I didn't switch off the engine. This, coupled to the fact that he went off and came back 10 mins later with a perfectly boosting car suggests to me that he poured some cold water down there when I wasn't looking.

I mentioned this on another forum (not Audi related) and had a couple of people report similar issues buying 'near concourse' cars from this place. One in particular was a prospective 911 owner who had the good sense to take an expert with him to view. Turned out that the 911 in question was needing about £5k spent to put right.......

I, for one, will not be traversing the country to see another motor down there.

Im really sorry to hear that mate. I always thought that particular car was one of the best in the country. Im very disappointed that that garage is selling dodgy cars. I Get my MOT's done there. But i will certainly bear that in mind as after hearing this i dont thinnk i will have any work done by them.
I hope you find the RS2 that you are looking for and i am glad you didnt find the problems after buying it. Sounds as if its barely a £10k RS2 let alone a £20k one.

Can't speak for the MoT station as you will know this seller isn't the same business - only related. That said, it was the father who came out to diagnose the problem on the RS2 but he never once looked me in the eye and didn't return a word - despite me trying to instigate a conversation twice.

As for a £10k car, I don't know that it is quite that bad...... New Tyres, Hall Sender and Wastegate and I'd pay £16k for it. I wish I'd been looking for one when Dan was selling it......
